Seven Polish Folk Songs

Set of Seven is a collection of folk songs from various regions of Poland, reimagined through a modern musical lens. After experimenting with each melody in different keys, I selected tonalities that best reflected the core mood and character of each piece. However, the transformation goes beyond just key changes—meters have also been altered. In some songs, the placement of strong beats has been shifted so that the accents no longer match the original folk rhythm, creating a fresh and sometimes unexpected musical flow.

The harmonic language is unconventional. Rather than using traditional folk harmonies, I introduced chords that enrich the colors and textures of the music, offering a new emotional depth to familiar tunes.

In Nasieję jarej rutki, the second section is based entirely on natural harmonics, giving the piece a delicate, shimmering quality.

Moja mamuliczko stands out for its wandering melody, which weaves through chords presented either as arpeggios or written explicitly as harmonic structures, creating a sense of fluidity and openness.

As for the rest of the pieces—what makes them special is for you to discover on your own.
